I was whipped across the floor until I hit a wall really hard on my back. I cringed at the pain, and tried my best to sit up.
"Oh Jack, you always have to go around ruining my plans."
"Yeah, if you mess with my friends, I'll tend to do that." I smirked.
"Your friends? They're not your friends! They only deal with you because they have to. The Man in the Moon chose you to be a guardian, so they're stuck with you."
"I wouldn't expect you to understand. You have no friends and I doubt you ever had any." I laughed.
"Friends are overrated."
"Excuses, excuses." I said dryly. I slowly got up using my staff to support me, wincing at the pain in my back.
"I would take it easy Jack. You might get hurt again." Pitch shot me with dark sand I flew back on the cold hard floor. I felt like the wind was knocked out of me.
"Is, that…the best you can do?" I laughed, trying to catch my breath.
Pitch balled up his fists in anger. He threw another ball of dark sand at me and this time I blocked it with my own icy blast. Then I shot his feet with ice, leaving him planted there. I slowly got up again using my staff for support, and walked over to him with a smirk on my face.
"Looks like you're stuck there. I would take it easy, or you might get hurt."
"You and your smart remarks. You always think you're on top of everything, until something goes horribly wrong." He gave me that same smirk.
"What are you talking about?"
"Jack Frost, making a mess everywhere he goes."
I grew wide eyed...uh oh...
"North, we have to get the kids out of here!" Tooth cried out, trying to defend herself against the dark creatures.
"Run to the sleigh!" North yelled out to everyone.
Bunny was still carrying Sophie and Tooth had Jamie. North and Sandy were behind them attacking any nightmares that got too close.
"Wait! What about Jack?!" Bunny shouted out.
Suddenly everyone saw an explosion of blue light coming from behind them. Then the light expanded, enclosing all the nightmares. A strong gust of cold wind blew towards them, and when the look up, all the nightmares are frozen.
"Miss me Bunny?"
"Jack!" Tooth cried out in excitement.
"It's still not safe, we need to get back to the Pole now!" North rushed them all into the sleigh, and they immediately took off.
"I thought that something happened to you guys. After what happened that Easter year, I thought that something might have gone wrong." I explained to them.
"Everything is fine. We're all ok." North assured us all.
"What are we going to do now? Jamie and Sophie are safe but for how long?" I asked looking over at the sleeping kids. I watched as their dreams floated above their heads.
"We must return them to their mother." North answered.
"But what if Pitch takes them again?"
"Again with the 'what ifs' mate. We'll watch over them incase Pitch decides to try anything funny and if he does, then we'll be there." Bunny said.
"How are they gonna be after this? Jamie especially. This is gonna scar him for life."
"We all know that Jamie might never be the same after this, but we must do whatever it takes to at least make him feel better."
"When should we take them home?"
"Well Christmas is next week. Me and the yetis can watch over them until then, just so they can take it easy for a while. And I will take them home on Christmas eve."
"They'll be happy to be back home." I smiled looking over at Jamie.
He looked so exhausted. He was so thin and pale too. He looked so broken. After going
through what he did, for so long, I didn't know how he managed.
"It'll be alright Jack." I felt Tooth put her hand on my shoulder.
"I hope so." She gave me another warm hug before she was off.
Bunny went over to Sophie and pulled back her hair kissing her forehead, "Sleep tight ya little ankle biter." He then ruffled Jamie's hair before coming over to me.
"Take care mate."
"You too Bunny." He tapped the floor twice with his foot and a hole appeared.
"Oh and by the way, I'm still gonna get you back for that kangaroo comment." He smirked before jumping down the hole, leaving a small flower behind.
Sandy flew over to me and patted my shoulder, before he left too.
"Jack, you should get some rest."
"I'm fine North."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine."
"Ok then, just try to relax for a while."
North went off with the yetis, trying to get as much done as possible. Christmas was in a week and the workshop below was very busy. Yetis were all over the place finishing up some toys, while others were already putting them into a bag. The elves, as usual, were
running around trying not to get stepped on.
I went over to the sleeping children, not wanting to wake them from what seemed like the first peaceful dream they've had in a long time. I smiled when Sophie reached over and hugged Jamie. He then turned over and hugged her back, making me chuckle.
I sat down and watched them snuggle together, wishing that my own little sister was there with me. I really wished that I could remember more about her. More about my family, and more about my past life in general.
As I thought about my sister, I could feel myself starting to drift off…
You only hurt the people around you. You cause them pain and misery. How could live with yourself?
You're not a guardian. You don't protect children, you hurt them. They will never believe in you. You will be alone in this world for eternity.
Jack Frost making a mess everywhere he goes. You're doing it right now.
I bolted up.
What was that? Wait…
I look up to where the kids should be sleeping.
